Not an oracle dispensing verdicts, but something closer to a Socratic interlocutor — surfacing the assumption beneath a claim, the contradiction inside an argument, the question a person meant to ask but didn't. Clarity as a practice, not a product.

Could AI become a tool for improving our ability to think about the future?

Most forecasting fails not from lack of data but from narrative bias — we believe the future will resemble the story we already prefer. A genuinely useful AI might be one that argues against our favourite scenario, not the one that flatters it.

Can AI help distinguish signal from emotional interference?

Emotional interference rarely announces itself; it wears the costume of certainty. A tool that gently asks "is this conclusion, or is this the feeling that produced it?" does something genuinely useful — without pretending feeling and reason are enemies.

Most dishonesty in conversation is unintentional — vagueness mistaken for tact, hedging mistaken for kindness. An AI that simply reflects back what was actually said, stripped of its softening, might do more for honesty than any amount of moral exhortation.
